My Background

I grew up in Miami, Florida, just a few minutes from the University of Miami. All of my grandparents moved from Cuba after Fidel Castro took over, and the struggle they went through to provide a better future for their offspring inspires and drives me to get where I want to be. My Cuban background has shaped me into the person I am today, and I could not be more grateful and proud.

From a young age, my parents taught me that one must work hard in everything that they do and that one must enjoy what they are working towards in order to live a happy life. Journalism fits these criteria—it is both something I work hard at and something I love doing. I strive every day to make my parents proud and my grandparents, who sacrificed everything, even prouder.
